Occult Spells, A Nineteenth Century Grimoire ReviewGreat-grandad used to say "If you want first-class oats, you have to expect to pay a fair price. If, however, you'll settle for oats after a horse has passed them, you can buy them a good bit cheaper."
Keep that in mind if you choke on the $60 pricetage of this lovely work. It's a well-made, Smythe sewn, silver-embossed, cloth-bound book made with archival-grade paper and numerous color photographic plates. And the materials included therein are just as fine-- different spells, talismans, charms and such-like that Hockley came across in rare books and manuscripts in the course of his researches, and recorded in his own private book. Comparing this to the most of the works published by occult paperback mills like Llewellyn (for example) is like comparing Grandpa's first-class oats with the uh.. *other* grade.
This is the latest in a number of recent Hockley manuscript releases from several different sources. Companion volumes, "A Complete Book of Magic Science" and "The Rosicrucian Seer: Magical Writings of Frederick Hockley With a Chapter on Hockley's Manuscripts, and a Note on Hockley as an Astrologer" by R.A.
