Lost in the Spell ReviewI loved the first book of this series and have been waiting patiently for Mr. Henry to pen the first of two promised sequels. It has been about two and half years and when last seen, Chad Henson was transported to 1914 when the love of his life (Frances Langford, the famous actress and singer) was only a tot of two years old. It is not long after that Chad returns to the present and convinces Professor Van Schlabahn to send him back to 1945 one last time. After all, Frances was so heartbroken by Chad's disappearance that she needed to take off two months from working.Through Chad's scheme, he is able to get Frances transported to present time where the two of them can be together always. At first it is a struggle for the two of them to get by on what the professor pays Chad and Frances' meager earnings from a part-time job. They get the idea that Frances can re-invent herself using her singing talent and introducing it to a new generation. When auditions at record agencies fail Chad gets Frances (now known as Francesca) to try out for an "American Idol' type television show. As Francesca starts to become popular, she comes to the attention of Holly Wood, an enemy (who dug up dirt on stars) from 1945. Holly has fallen on hard times but Francesca gives her new direction to become relevant again. Holly's goal becomes to destroy Francesca, the Frances Langford "look-alike."
Mr. Henry has done a marvelous job continuing this story and has introduced some fun new characters such as Fiona, who reminds Frances of her best friend Iris as well as Bernard Smyth-Weston, a tough talent judge who hides a past secret. We really get to explore Frances' talent as a singer and what made her songs so great. The story never gets boring and Mr. Henry has done an incredible amount of research to bring Frances Langford to life that it will make the reader hungry to find her movies and music!
