The Crimson Spell, Vol. 2 ReviewIn addition to the stunning art work, this particular series is the best I've ever seen for combining a gripping plot with unashamed and delightful erotica. The characters are vibrant and funny yet at the same time being people flawed enough to be believable and liked. The plot actually is surprising unpredictable compared to even mainstream fantasy.
This second collection is sadly shorter then the first, but the quality is still amazing and it still long enough to be worth the read. The Crimson Spell, Vol. 2 Overview

Spell (Yaoi) ReviewThis is my second Yaoi from this mangaka and I have to say I am pretty impressed with the way she handles her guys' emotions.
She has done a lovely job in this one exploring her guys' developing feelings for each other. Natori and Kisugi are appealing characters. Both are college students who met in a dating party. Natori who comes from a small town is a bit of a "country bumpkin", with his rather black and white view of his surroundings, and quite a "virgin". Kisugi is an acknowledged "bisexual" who is outspoken, direct and open about his sexual preference, hopping from one relationship to another, never seeking love but just favors and comforts. But they hit it off immediately, with common likings as each is drawn to the other's different personality.
Natori of course finds himself gradually developing feelings for Kisugi and getting confused over it. Afterall his good friend is a guy. It does not help that Kisugi has been seeing an older businessman for 3 months, his longest relationship so far.
We also have a female character Yasuha-chan, Natori's childhood friend who is secretly in love with Natori. And she is quite a character as she ends up lecturing the 2 guys on their relationship and giving them the "wake-up" call.
A great one to have in my collection as we have a sappy and vulnerable seme here while the uke is the confident and experienced one. The sex may be limited but the well developed emotions content and likable characters are most appealing. As this is the mangaka's earlier works, the artwork is a bit awkward. I certainly see the fluid improvement she made in her later "Lover's flat" which I enjoy alot.Spell (Yaoi) Overview

The Crimson Spell, Vol. 1 ReviewI was already a huge fan of Ayano Yamane's Finder series when I heard that this was getting an English release. I was a little skeptical that it wouldn't hold up to the quality of Finder. Thankfully, it was as good if not better! Yamane's art is exquisite, as always, but the storyline is even more developed than the first volume of Finder. Prince Bald has been cursed by his crimson sword to turn into a beast at night. He journey's to the magician Havi, renowned for breaking curses. Havi demands Bald accompany him on a journey to locate magical artifacts as payment for breaking the curse. But, Havi never counted on Bald's "beast" being so sexy and lusty! There is a lot of hot, explicit sex and the plot has a lot of action also. The rabbit "familiar" is a nice touch, and has the potential to add more humor in subsequent volumes.
I'm fortunate enough to have both volumes in Japanese (though I have to rely on scanlation), and still I can hardly wait for the next volume in English. A wonderful hard yaoi title; highy recommended! The Crimson Spell, Vol. 1 Overview
