Dragon Over Washington (The Third War Of The Bir Nibaru Gods) ReviewThis book from an unknown author really gave me a surprise. It turned out to be one of the best and most interesting books I've read lately, though I go through one or two kindle titles every week.
I'll start with the hero, an NSA employee called Thorpe. Thorpe is a likable character, a man who is really a boy in his heart, who works for the NSA mainly to get a chance to play with all the neat gadgets and electronic toys that only the government possess. Then, interesting things start happening and Thorpe, mainly out of boredom with his normal tasks, start to investigate. Thorpe, right in front of our eyes, finds out disturbing things, things that herald an unimaginable danger coming to out earth. However, among all the trouble brewing and Thorpe having to fight for his life against a mystery foe, Thorpe manages to grow up a bit, starting to understand something about responsibility and dependability. But even so, he still finds time to fall in love with a fellow agent. Following Thorpe's character development was a real treat.
The book involves supernatural events occurring right in our own, mundane world. The author managed to describe the events in such a way the reader feels that real events are being described, that if you'd open your TV, six o'clock news would declare that in London, wield and catastrophic events started happening. This blending of the real and the unreal was written so well as to make the seams invisible, immersing the reader into a fantastic adventure that nevertheless feels absolutely real.
The book's uncompromising realism is especially pronounced when battles against fantastic monsters (I can say dragons and demons but I don't want to give away the surprises from the book) are being described. The reader feels he is actually in the battle scene, seeing every fang and talon, hearing every growl and hiss. It's an incredible experience.
Last but not least, the book leaves tantalizing hints involving our own ancient history. There is a deep connection, a mystery to be unraveled that makes you want to devour this book in one go, even forgetting to sleep (but not eat, of course. I usually eat and read at the same time).
I've never read a book quite like this before. I can highly recommend it to anyone searching for something really interesting and original to read. If you don't believe me - just download the prologue!!!
