The Ritual Magic Manual: A Complete Course in Practical Magic ReviewThis is the textbook for Griffin's order. I was a part of that order once, and its purchase was implicitly required of me. The people I had met in that order (via the internet) were nice, and I have nothing against the order of a personal nature. Over time, however, I have become a little more educated in the occult and GD and have realized for myself the shortcomings of this rather expensive book (which other critics have already enumerated). I have also learned that Griffin has been at war with many other competing orders for supremacy -- orders that, incidentally, get along amongst themselves. Consequently, those who are loyal to his order are quite active on the internet, giving great reviews of his book, etc. You will not find much support for his book, however, outside of that.If you are a novice, I think everyone would agree that Regardie's GD is the place to start. Eventually, you will have to think about which side of the Griffin equation you are on, but, in the meantime, this book is really expensive, and its efficacy is highly contested along well drawn-up lines. If you're still inclined to purchase it, I would suggest waiting until you have spent your hard-earned money on occult and GD books that everyone agrees are valuable: Regardie, Mathers, Fortune, and Crowley (if you're so inclined).
