Anchors Aweigh (Romantic Mysteries) ReviewThe 6th and final book in the Calamity Jayne series (or so I have heard, but hope isn't true).
Okay, so I "cheated" and jumped ahead a couple of books (I skipped 4 & 5) because I wanted to find out how it "ends."
The romance of the series comes to it peak in this book. Tressa has been running from Ranger Rick for years now and for a week they will be on a ship together with only a few family members and their feelings. Only problem is, Manny and Aunt Mo show up and confuse Tressa and her feelings.
This book focuses on Tressa mostly--she doesn't find trouble with anyone but herself most of the time. In all the other books (at least the other 3 1/2 I have read) she has a partner-in-crime for most of it. This time around, she keeps most things to herself and interacts with secondary characters occasionally. Ranger Rick and Manny get their fair share of time and Tressa does finally confront her feelings and make a decision.
I'm sad this is the last in the series...I think Tressa is hilarious and could still have a lot more in her. She might not be as "blonde" anymore, but she still has a lot of growth in her character and I'm sure she could find plenty more trouble for herself.
A good, humorous, well written conclusion. I read it in less than a day and finished with a happy feeling.Anchors Aweigh (Romantic Mysteries) Overview

Divorced, Desperate and Delicious (Love Spell Contemporary Romanc) ReviewThis book was so much fun to read. It's a sizzling romantic comedy about a woman who's dog discovers an injured man in her backyard. He (Chase) is a cop that just escaped the bad guy, but who is also being framed as a bad guy. You know from page 1 who the bad guy really is, but its quite a mystery as to how they will prove it. Meanwhile, these two spend many days and hours confined together in her remote home near a lake, which creates a great deal of whitty dialog and steamy scenes as they go about trying to prove him innocent. There are a lot of secondary characters that were great. I really hope we see one or two spin off stories from this book, especially Jason's story. ;-) Fans of authors such as Rachel Gibson, (who like their stories funny but with depth to them), will love this book. This is NOT a fluff book or a book that is all about sex (which are becoming way too common!) This has a real strongly developed story that showcases a very interesting couple on the journey to falling in love. News Blues (Love Spell) ReviewMaddy has simple wants in life. At 27, she wants to produce for Newsline, have a cute guy and a real designer handbag, or at least a knockoff that has a sewn-on label and not a badly glued on one . What she has is a dead-end job at News 9, where if "it bleeds it leads" if not, then it will go nowhere, no boyfriend, divorcing parents, a live-in hormonal 16-year-old sister and oh yeah a counterfeit Kate Spade bag that the label isn't even sewn on to. Did I mention no boyfriend? Heck, she can't even keep a date with a loser Czechoslovakian surfer, who loves soccer.
But, now maybe her luck is turning. She is producing her own segment; too bad it is with the narcissistic talking head at News 9. Oh yeah, her new cameraman is the hottest guy she has seen in a long time, but he turns out to be engaged. Add to this her father is having a baby with his new woman, who is younger than Maddy and you will decide that her luck is definitely not turning.
But, what happens when her knockoff handbag guy offers her the story of a lifetime? Will she figure out how to step up and take on the story? Will the one night she and Jamie connect turn into more? More important than all of that, can she help her sister who is suddenly in a whole lot more trouble than anyone though possible?
News Blues is another winner from Marianne Mancusi. This book has it all, lust, drugs and even maybe some killer make-up. Ok, so not really on the killer make-up but the rest of it is true. Ms. Mancusi does a wonderful job writing about the stressful work of being a producer, suddenly caring for a sibling as well as primadonna "talking heads" and lust.I found that the way the chapters all started with a crazy email helped to set the tone for the ongoing dialogue. Additionally, there is a super suspenseful story that happens with drugs and drug lords. As well, add to this some forbidden lust and a few too many margaritas and you get this wonderful story. I thoroughly enjoyed News Blues and think you will also.

The Magic Knot (Love Spell Paranormal Romance) ReviewIt's not every day you read a book where the heroine is a rather dull-seeming accountant. Perhaps Rosenwyn Tremain is a bit dull but her life changes overnight when she finds herself driving to Cornwall to carry out an accountancy check on a pub. When she arrives at the pub she meets twin brothers Michael and Niall O'Connor and from that point on nothing is the same. She feels a strange connection to Niall but he's reserved and seems to be hiding something. Part of her reasoning to visit Cornwall is to search for her father, a man she doesn't remember; however there's more to her Dad than she can possibly imagine and meeting him starts her on a quest, along with Niall, Michael and another ususual male, to rescue a whole race of piskies and to attempt to help Niall keep his sister safe.
Rose is a good heroine, a women who's fairly down-to-earth and who is able to take rather dramatic events in her stride, but a woman who also knows to focus on people as the most important thing. Niall, however, was a rather unsatisfactory hero for me; he is a bit too moody and reserved and has a dreadful tendency to not tell Rose what's going on so she's constantly in the dark. The other characters were well described but didn't really ring entirely true for me.
The setting in Cornwall and then Ireland was interesting enough although our English/Irish protagonists slipped into using American language at times, which was rather incongruous. There were some rather dramatic plot events which I felt weren't always handled very well and the central romance didn't feel particularly romantic. However the story was interesting with good pacing and the change in setting from Cornwall to Ireland was also good.
This book was apparently the winner of the 2008 American Title IV contest; although it was a reasonable read it wasn't anything special, at least for this reader, but those who like fairy/sidhe/magical stories should enjoy it.

Gotcha (Love Spell) ReviewI had so wanted a 3rd Divorced and Desperate book from Christie Craig and thought ok I will settle for Gotcha! Well you are far from settling with this book! Christie Craig hits the mark AGAIN with this book. Macy Tucker is a woman with drama in her life. A younger brother in prison, a mom who cries constantly when she's not getting her belly button pierced, cheating husband which leads to a no-good ex-husband and if THAT isn't enough now she has an escaped criminal after her!
Enter Jake Baldwin, a hunky cop with some drama of his own. His fiancee has left him to marry his brother! A pastor of all things! Jake is the son of a preacher who watched his dad die from cancer and his fiancee walk out on him and into the waiting arms of his brother, someone he hasn't spoken to in years.
Definitely sounds like these two are the last two people on the planet who should get mixed up together, but mixing it up they sure do!
Macy, like all of Craig's heroine's, is a treasure. She has a cat named Elvis, works her butt off delivering pizzas so she can go to law school. She has a good relationship with her grandmother (who teaches yoga!), her mom and her baby brother. Sure Billy got mixed up in some trouble, but she's a good sister and stands by him.
Billy escapes from prison the same time Tanks does and he knows Tanks is gunning for his sister. He's trying to keep his sister and the love of his life Ellie safe from harm. Hard to do when you're on the lamb from the law.
Jake is unofficially on the case and pretty much takes charge of Macy and her care and her safety. It's endearing how he knows after that first night she is worth keeping.
Their romance is cute, sexy and completely charming.
I'm a big fan of Christie Craig and have never been let down by a single book of hers. I can't even say they keep getting better, because each one is so great in it's own right.
She has been a keeper author of mine and I anxiously await her next tale, hopefully another Divorced and Desperate book!
As long as she keeps coming up with hunky cops and damsels in distress she will keep me hooked!Gotcha (Love Spell) Overview

Weddings Can Be Murders is a genuine contemporary romance story. This is a story of Katie Ray, a woman due to be married to a man she thinks she loves. Her position in this matter changes daily and when she accidentally flushes her wedding ring, she is forced to step back and pay serious consideration to her choices.
While she's busy with wedding arrangements, Katie stumbles onto the path of a killer. Carl Hades, a private investigator is on the trail of the killer who is responsible for the deaths of four brides-to-be.
During the course of the investigation, Katie and Carl discover an attraction towards each other. However, between Katie's imminent wedding and Carl's aversion to marriage, both are reluctant to act on their growing feelings.
In addition to the story of Katie and Carl, there's a secondary story featuring Katie's best friend. Both stories are easy to follow. The writing moves fast, and does not complicate the story. There are some very funny moments and also sad moments dealing with family loss.
Christine Craig is a talented writer. In this story, she develops interesting and likable characters into a story that has enough twist and turns to keep you at the edge of your seat. I look forward to reading more of her books. Reviewed by Cez at Bookaholics Romance Book Club

People who go there have a tendency to realize that many of the problems they see in their own lives are not as insurmountable as they seemed before. Seduction's Spell is an enchanting novel. I put up my feet, enjoyed a cup of tea and indulged myself with Seduction's Spell. Ms. LaFleur takes characters from all walks of life and blends them together like a well-oiled machine. Seduction's Spell is actually more of four stories combined than a single story. All of which draw the reader in. I liked and pulled for all the characters with their realistic faults and dreams being brought out for review.
