An accessible and fun combination of feng shui, magic, and all manner of rites, prayers and rituals for creating a harmonious home. Just past chapter 2 I'd already cleared out a corner in my bedroom that I never really liked and transformed it into a simple place for cut flowers, a crystal, and a little bound volume in which my husband and I can leave sweet notes for each other. Needless to say, this never would have occurred to me without Magical Housekeeping. I am actually looking forward to going through my house area by area, inch by inch (unheard of!) to add this same, new sparkly feeling.The recipes and directions for creating benevolent aromas, blessings, and protections for all areas of the house are 100% user-friendly. I particularly loved the chapters on our animal and plant friends. I kept saying to myself, "Why not think this way?" The dose of whimsy throughout the book is just right. For instance, there's a spray I'm going to use the next time I have an argument with my husband. I'm figuring he couldn't possibly stay serious once I tell him he's just been zapped with "Lighten Up Sparkle Spray"!!
I finished the book in front of the fire last night and was rewarded this morning by a chance encounter with a spider (Lady Spider, I should say) who I carefully escorted outside in a plastic cup. I took the book's suggestion of asking Ms. Spider a serious question because .... well.... why not? The same goes for blessing my broom with a fairly involved ritual. Why not? I'm counting on the fact that it will imbue my sweeping with a certain "je ne sais quoi." If I remember, I'm definitely going to blow kisses into the oven when I cook. I've heard of kitchen witches, I even used to have one, I just never thought of going this far. The author is both serious and fun-loving. The book has invited me to lighten up, tune into a more creative, childlike - yet highly intentional - way of living. The ending is wonderful - about insides and outsides being one and how taking care of our personal spaces helps us all to create a more loving world.
