Meditation and Kabbalah ReviewThis is a very good book for those that are competent in the basic terminology of Kabbalah. If you're not, you will struggle with this text. This book gives the reader a very broad appreciation for the art of meditation through a broad compilation of the various Kabbalistic literature that is unaccesible to most people and nearly impossible to taste if your language is only English. This book covers all of the major schools and their most noticeable differences and provides enough "meat" to contemplate the various methods of meditation themselves. This book is not an expositon on the Bible, but it is biblicaly based although not readily apparent. If you're looking for your first book on meditation, don't start here, this isn't a beginners text. Instead try Kaplan's other book, "Jewish Meditation." However, if you're ready to take a deeper look and wan't to gain a broader perspective on the various methods, this is an excellent text.Meditation and Kabbalah Overview

Sepher Rezial Hemelach: The Book of the Angel Rezial ReviewTranslating is a tricky business, especially when the translator is dealing with esoteric literature, which wasn't meant to be read by everybody. The translator should know the language he's translating from pretty well. Unfortunately it is very obvious to anyone who knows Hebrew, that mr. Savedows knowlegde of Hebrew (and Aramaic as well) is very limited. He has made a lot of very strange mistakes and the translation consists of various elements that are NOT present in the original text. He makes ordinary Hebrew words into mysterious, magical names. I could go on, but I think it is save to say that this book is not a translation, but a not-very-much-to-do-with-the-original-text interpretion. Anyone considering to buy this book should keep this in mind.Sepher Rezial Hemelach: The Book of the Angel Rezial Overview

Amulets, Talismans, and Magical Jewelry: A Way to the Unseen, Ever-Present, Almighty God ReviewFirst off, this book was the first thing I saw when I opened my package from Amazon, and I thought the shrink wrap that was used was really blurry. Nope. The picture on the front cover is blurry- like it's not a high resolution image, but they blew it up anyway. Also, it's copal/African Amber- from nomadic African and Middle Eastern tribes, but most of this book is about Judiasm. Most pictures within the text are blurry, pixelated or look like they were taken on vacation and not enhanced. The author seriously underestimated the impact of clear pictures of the jewelry she is describing! She's trying to demonstrate the greatness of these objects, but we can't see them clearly enough to appreciate them properly. The text is ok, not great. I wouldn't recommend this book. This is a bad example of an author taking her own photographs. They are so distracting I couldn't get past them. Instead I would recommend anything by Angela Fisher about African adornment and jewelry, or The Jewelry of Nepal by Hannelore Gabriel or Tribal Asia by Schmid and Trupp or the "A World of ____" series: (Necklaces, Earrings, Bracelets, or Belts.)Amulets, Talismans, and Magical Jewelry: A Way to the Unseen, Ever-Present, Almighty God Overview

The 72 Names of God: Technology for the Soul ReviewThe 72 Names of God--A Critical Review
This is a paradox for me. This is an important book (which is why I'm reviewing it) but I'm also disturbed by the economic intentions of its producers.
This is a glossy and contemporary coffee-table book. The subject matter, however, shouldn't be presented in a way that would lead anyone to think this is some kind of fad.
I think its main producer (not author) makes several interesting and true statements about how one should approach these Names. One point he unashamedly makes is that it is for everyone (regardless of one's philosophical and behavioral disposition.) I absolutely disagree as have so many credible Kabbalists throughout the past (estimated) 1800 years.
The reason for this is that these "Names" are attached to gates, "forces" that are attracted when one employs the necessary visualization and contemplative techniques. To be sure, this book presupposes that one has some familiarity with the three different types of meditation: visualization, contemplative and verbal.
There's also the interpretation of a few of the Names that is quite controversial. There are varying beliefs about the afterlife within Judaism and especially with the topic of communing with the dead. When this book first came out several years ago, I was one of the first ones to purchase it. I sent Rabbi Berg and The Kabbalah Center an email questioning the interpretation of a Name that allows for necromancy. Their curt response left a lot to be desired.
Apart from these concerns, these are, in fact, the Names that Kabbalists have maintained are the Names for Creation. Many of the Names use the same letters, and are only distinguished by permutation and the expectation that one brings.
This is not a book for everyone. One must attempt to live an upstanding life or the appeals may result in the influences from the Other Side.
