The Path of Alchemy: Energetic Healing & the World of Natural Magic (Pathways to Enlightenment) ReviewThe Path of Alchemy - Energetic Healing and the World of Natural Magic by Mark Stavish is simply the finest book on practical alchemy that I have ever read. While focusing on introductory material and plant work, or spagyrics, it has enough meaty stuff for everyone. There is a fascinating discussion of the role of homeopathy in alchemy; extensive meditations and practices to link laboratory work (Labora) with inner work (Ora); initiation and the Tree of Life via alchemy; and some good background material on alchemy in the 20th Century. However, even the appendices are juicy in their description of the Tarot and the Alchemical process; the famed Longevity Tea of the Comte de St-Germain, similar to the confirmed recipe found in the long out of print, and very valuable biography on St. Germain by Jean Overton Fuller, and a fascinating description of the Flamel Path, of Nicholas and Pernelle Flamel, made famous in the first Harry Potter book, "The Sorcerer's Stone". If you are going to read just one book on alchemy this year, or ever, I suggest "The Path of Alchemy".
P.S. Speaking as someone with next to no background in the Art, Mark Stavish has delivered a user friendly manual that renders the most obscure and complex material in plain language. However, this does not imply that the work is simplistic. As the Alchemists say, it requires both prayer and labor, "ora et labora".The Path of Alchemy: Energetic Healing & the World of Natural Magic (Pathways to Enlightenment) Overview

Hermetic Arcanum: Collectanea Hermetica Vol. 1 ReviewKuntz has put together a tour de force. He has uncovered materials that Westcott deleted in his presentation of the Collectania Hermetica. This work is unique in that there are contributions located nowhere else in the English language.Hermetic Arcanum: Collectanea Hermetica Vol. 1 Overview

The Bahir ReviewAs far as the study of Kabbalah is concerned, this book is necessary and the only English version I'm aware of. This is certainly not light reading and very esoteric in nature. Without the commentary of Mr. Kaplan, this text would be incomprehensible to all but the very elite of the Kabbalistic scholars, which I'm not. Extreme patience and focus is required when reading and I highly recommend that one read the commentary for each of the 200 points as you go. Of course this makes for lots of page turning, but much easier comprehension. With that said, one can find many gemstones within the pages of this book that are largely allegorical in nature. Although I find the gematria a bit of a stretch at times, I certainly can't definitively discount the exegesis either. The work along the sefirot and the meditative implications I thought were the most useful of the teachings in these pages, but not intended for the beginner. The commentary on the levels of the soul and universes I also thought were particulary interesting and useful for understanding some of the Hebraic connotations of the Bible. The Bahir Overview

The Way of the Crucible ReviewTrue alchemists are a rarity in our modern world, and even more rarely are they present in the public eye. With his first book, "Real Alchemy", and now this one, Bartlett provides us with knowledge that is hard to find yet absolutely essential for those of us curious about the ancient art of alchemy. If you have such a curiosity I HIGHLY recommend both of Bartlett's books. The Way of the Crucible Overview

Disciple's Guide to Ritual Magick ReviewI have had the immense pleasure of not only working with Frater Barrabbas's system, but also of working with Barrabbas himself! He is a stupendous magician and an extremely wise and passionate individual. There are a lot of good books on the market which teach various forms of magic (energy work, ritual magic, evocation, and so on), but I am glad to say that Frater Barrabbas has given the world a new classic and raised the bar! If you are serious about ritual magic, whether you are a total beginner or a seasoned practitioner, I cannot recommend another book more highly than this one. I promise you that it will take work, but I can further promise that every ounce of effort put into the teachings of "Disciple's Guide to Ritual Magick" will be repayed powerfully.Disciple's Guide to Ritual Magick Overview

On Becoming an Alchemist: A Guide for the Modern Magician ReviewI have often been disappointed by books on alchemy which descend into complex discussions of laboratory work, or reduce everything to Jungian psychology. Catherine MacCoun has given us a rare, clear, and genuinely wise treatment of alchemy from the perspective of spiritual development and inner service. My only significant quibble is that I would like to see an expansion of her treatment of polarity beyond those dynamics which can fit into the masculine/feminine (or active/passive) box. At many points through the book, I found myself wishing someone had told me these things twenty years ago. Don't miss it.On Becoming an Alchemist: A Guide for the Modern Magician Overview
