Simplified Qabala Magic ReviewIn the past, I've found Jewish Kabbalah books long on rhetoric, long on history but short on practical application and personal development. Not being particular, I switched over to the magical tradition. The first (magical) book I tried reading--Gareth Knight's book, A Practical Guide to Qabalistic Symbolism--went right over my head. By then, I realized I was really a beginner: I didn't even know how to meditate or visualize...or anything.
Simplified (Qabala) Magic by Ted Andrews helped me out a great deal. Not only did it make the Tree of Life platable for a budding magus, it suppled me with simple meditation and visualization techniques, tips on candle-color-fragrance selection, and even showed me how to pronounce/intone the sephiroth God-names. Generally, I appreciate his brief and gentle approach.
This book, IMHO, is useful to those who want a straightforward, practical approach to the Tree of Life. Add to it, Andrew's More Simplified Magic (which covers the Tree's paths), one would then have all he initially needs to enter the mystical qabalah.Simplified Qabala Magic Overview

A Practical Guide to Qabalistic Symbolism ReviewGareth Knight has put together perhaps the most complete assessment of Qabalistic symbology yet published in one book, both for the Tree of Life and the Tarot. As such, it's value to beginning students of Qabalah cannot be overstated. Be this as it may, Knight sometimes uses the book as a soapbox for trumpeting his particular Christian/Scientology brand of Qabalistic dogma, which may leave many libertines out in the cold. He also mistakenly considers Gematria unnecessary to the understanding Qabalistic symbology (!) and tends to beat up Aleister Crowley needlessly while embracing the Master's exchange of the Tarot cards The Emperor and The Star in accordance with Liber AL vel Legis (an allusion to L. Ron Hubbard's Thelemic roots, methinks). However, in spite of these drawbacks, Knight presents the Qabalah lucidly and with great erudition, in a language which is suprisingly accessible to all newcomers. He even dares to show how the Christian Mysteries are relevant to Qabalistic philosophy, often considered taboo in esoteric circles. One of the best features of the book is Knight's thorough comparative analysis of numerous Tarot symbologies, including those of A. E. Waite, Aleister Crowley, and Paul Foster Case. This is definitely an important work which belongs on every Qabalist's bookshelf.A Practical Guide to Qabalistic Symbolism Overview

The Witches Qabala: The Pagan Path and the Tree of Life ReviewEllen Cannon Reed's book on the interface between Kabbalah and Witchcraft is an important work. For Pagan's interested in using the Practical Kabbalh in their magick, it is a good place to begin. The best feature of the book is the relating of the Sefiroth (the spheres on the Tree of Life) to the passages in the Charge of the Goddess. I deducted one star for the ambiguities surrounding the practice of Rising on the Planes. The technique given for this is not, in fact, Rising on the Planes, but a description of a useful technique for attuning to the energies of a particular Sephrira in preparation for actual pathworking. Despite this drawback (one which is unfortunatly all too common in books on Practical Kabbalah) Reed's book is excellent and should be on every Witch's shelf. Very highly reccomended. The Witches Qabala: The Pagan Path and the Tree of Life Overview

Egyptian Magick: Enter the Body of Light & Travel the Magickal Universe (Llewellyn's High Magick) ReviewI have been a Pagan for over 12 years now, but I was mainly concerned with Low or Sympathetic Magics. I wanted to 'upgrade' my studies, and since I work with the Egyptian Neter, I thought this book would help. Since I believe all books have some use, and there was a lot of information about the Gods themselves in here, I gave the book 3 stars. However, it is not a book for the novice, and there was a strong undertone of Golden Dawn Teachings, which I was not looking for. I suggest that a person looking for an introductry book for Egyptian Magic, not pick this up. It is far to advanced for even me! and Ive been practicing for a decade. Most of the Rituals are completed in the Astral Plane Temple... If you have no idea what im talking about, like I said, dont buy this book! The Schulers require the reader to have extensive knowledge of Astral Projection , and if you dont, then your lost.Because they dont teach any techinques (which is ok, since ther are countless books on the subject out there)Still, the Astral Heavy work should have been hinted at on the dust cover at least! I would reccomend this book however, if you want a few outlines for Iniaition and Amulet Creation Rituals. The book is well written, however it does lean towards Quabalist Teachings, and since the authors teach Golden Dawn Magick, this should not come as a total shock. On the whole, if you need help farmilirazing yourself with Egyptian Magick, seek elsewere.Ellen Cannon Reed's Invocation of the Gods, is a good Primer. It is sadly out of print, but still, check used book stores, its worth it!Egyptian Magick: Enter the Body of Light & Travel the Magickal Universe (Llewellyn's High Magick) Overview

Complete Magic Primer ReviewThis book is packed with information on occult techniques ranging from performing master rituals to astral projection to prophecy to amulets and talismans. This book was written by a genuine Welsh magician, using a pseudonym. He takes his subjects seriously but offers them to those who would use them, with the proper warnings given where appropriate. It's an excellent introduction to magic for a beginner and contains information that will be new to current practitioners.Complete Magic Primer Overview

Attainment Through Magic: Evoking the Higher Self ReviewThis was my first magic book and what a great one it was, through it I gained a sense of protection and Wise fearless towards life!
MAN KNOW THIE SELF is the central creed, and it's what you'll come to know like none other.
One central word of caution; do not tell anyone that you are practicing the magic of this book while you are still learning the excercises contained there in. for if you do, you'll lose all the magic you will have gained from this book.
Also I would sugest doing it where you won't be disturbed, outside in the woods is the best! at night or day.
Your gonna get high with this book, holy high and your gonna gain a love of life you never knew you had and more so you will find that you won't complete the final mission of this book until your dead, or maybe not even until a few more life times from now, but who cares when you can feel this high right now!, or atleast when you get about 2/3rds of the way through this book.
Look at the cover of this book!
That's exactly how you are gonna feel when you get on with this book.
Your gonna love it!Attainment Through Magic: Evoking the Higher Self Overview
