The Hunt (Big Bad Wolf Series) ReviewTwo hurt souls coming together. I thoroughly enjoyed The Hunt and read in one sitting - hence the red tired eyes. Highly recommend. Byron and Kat make for a great couple. Lots of hurt, anger, and guilt and forgivness.
The teaser from the next book has my imagination running wild. The Hunt (Big Bad Wolf Series) OverviewByron Caige has been a prisoner for the last fifty years of his supernaturally long life. Not Quite Paradise (Love Spell) ReviewI have to admit I only recently discovered this author and because of that, this book was very difficult to find. I searched everywhere for it and was so excited to finally get my hands on. Ms. Zimlich manages to create wonderful believable characters from other worlds and weave an exciting tale that had me sitting up most of the night. I was distressed when I read the review giving what could be taken as false information regarding this book. The TV series, The Visitors, came about two years after the copyright on this book. Many thanks to the author for her wonderful, vivid imagination! Not Quite Paradise (Love Spell) Overview

Enchanted Crossings (Love Spell romance) ReviewHEART OF THE HUNTER, by Madeline Baker, takes up the bulk of this book. The description from Baker's website: "Kelly McBride, the owner of a Montana ranch, is torn between two lovers: a Lakota spirit warrior who guards gold, and his flesh-and-blood descendent. There seems no way possible for Kelly and the ghostly spirit to make a life together. Lee Roan Horse, an embittered ex-con, descends on the ranch to steal the gold of his ancestors, but finds in Kelly the love of a lifetime that he's afraid to acknowledge."
I honestly thought that this was her first book. One minute she loves Lee, then she doesn't, then he loves her, then he doesn't. Sentences were constantly repeated. It appeared as though the author was told to keep adding details to the story but there was nothing new so she rehashed the same words. I expected more from this romance.
I felt there wasn't any chemistry between Lee and Kelly, ditto for the ghost and Kelly. I love time travel and paranormal books but I didn't enjoy HEART OF THE HUNTER; this is an anthology but I didn't read the other two stories. I am assuming the others that read ENCHANTED CROSSINGS read all three romances and rated the book accordingly. I may have given it more stars if I did.
According to Madeline Baker's website: Cerridwen Press is suppose to be releasing this title on it's own in January of 2010. Instead, if you want to read a wonderful time travel romance about the Lakota, try Judie Aitken's A LOVE BEYOND TIME.Enchanted Crossings (Love Spell romance) Overview

The Black Rose (Love Spell futuristic romance) ReviewZimlich's newest book "The Black Rose" is destined to give this author a secure notch of her own in the growing world of futuristic romance. Her writing is suspenseful and intriguing, the worlds she penned are fascinating, and the relationship between the hero and heroine is well worth reading about.
Lucien Charbonneau is a high-born noble with two faces: one is that of obedient son born of a father who has showed him nothing but contempt all his life, and the other is that of a revolutionary who has plotted and planned against his cold, autocratic father for years in an effort to throw over Dominion and force democratic changes into the existing noble and slave like system.
When Lucien's father commands him to come back to his home planet of New France, Lucien is very disconcerted to find out that he has been used against his will or knowledge to form a marriage alliance with the clan Fallon. Realizing how much his plans for galactic revolution lay in his counter-identity not being discovered, (trust me--Zimlich makes this work) Lucien bides his time and acts the complacent son so as not to raise suspicions about himself. A few days later, he finds himself on planet Lochlain preparing to marry a woman he had never before laid eyes upon...
Alexandra Fallon, niece to the ruler of the warrior Fallon clan, is less than thrilled to be forced to the altar. She is a warrior scholar with a destiny of her own choosing already mapped out. She had plans of her own...plans that didn't include being hitched to some high-born dandy like she was certain Lucien Charbonneau was going to turn out to be.
Alexandra's first and foremost desire was to prove to the skeptics that had dismissed her father's life work as the musings of a lunatic, that humans really had inhabited the far reaches of the Milky Way Galaxy thousands of years ago. Her destination was the fourth moon that laid outside of Dominion...the place where her father's writings assured her she would find the answers.
And so Alexandra escapes Lochlain after the marriage pact is signed and heads full fury toward the next galaxy. She hitches a ride with a smuggler en route, having no clue whatsoever that she's about to have the time of her life. Or that the smuggler in question is her husband...The Black Rose (Love Spell futuristic romance) Overview

Firestar (Love Spell) ReviewThere are many things I found disappointing about this book. In the beginning, the heroine is portrayed as so innocent, pure and good it sets your teeth on edge. Despite being completely sheltered and totally unprepared to rule, Meriel miraculously develops into a supposedly strong charcter. This is spoiled by her spending most of her time bemoaning her fate and waiting for rescue. The hero Gage, beyond being handsome and sexy comes across as self centered and borish and not in a particularly forgivable or interesting way.

Their interaction with their child was written like a plot convenience. As a mother, I was left wondering if the author has ever been exposed to small children. Mostly, I felt the characters were poorly developed, and the science fiction/fantasy portion of the story was poorly conceived.

I am a long time fan of science fiction and romance, it's been a joy to discover this genre, but I am finding that a great many fall into the terrible 1970's 'bodice ripper' trap. No convincing or engaging charcters no real plot and poorly developed story lines -- just an excuse to right steamy sex scenes. Love scenes are fun to read, but it takes more to make a great story! In a word this one was disappointing, but okay if you are sick of some the poorly written and unbelievable time travel stuff.Firestar (Love Spell) Overview

Electra Galaxy's Mr. Interstellar Feller (Love Spell) ReviewI wish PBB's review was here when I ordered this book and I could have saved my money. What was suppose to be a lighthearted futuristic romance with laughs was anything but.
Sagan Carter, an Earth policewoman, meets up with Captain Keir Trask, an Oceanun, and together they are suppose to thwart an intergalactic weapons plot in L.A. that could potentially kill thousands from throughout the galaxy. Within a week they clash because of their dominant personalities but still pine for each other. The weapons plot is passed back and forth throughout the story and the romance is weak and unbelievable between Sagan and Keir. There are hidden lies and Keir cannot even trust his best friend and second-in-command even though they have known and worked with each other for years.
I figured out who the No. 1 Baddie was long before it was revealed and, yes, there is unnecessary meanness and spite which doesn't help the storyline. If anything it diminished it. All over a sad excuse for romance, mystery, and humor. Save your money, you've been warned.Electra Galaxy's Mr. Interstellar Feller (Love Spell) Overview

Knight's Fork (Love Spell Futuristic Romance) Review
Volnoth Queen Consort Electra loves her mate Viz-lgerd, but knows they are checked when it comes to siring a child. She chooses Rhett as the sperm pawn for her offspring. However, she is unaware of two key facts about the pawn she has chosen. First he is the son of Volnoth's greatest enemy Ala'Asrer-Djalet, who is better known as the Saurian Dragon of the Djinn family; second he adheres to his vow of chastity.
Electra and Rhett are surprised by finding themselves attracted to one another. However, her brother Prince Tarrant-Arragon assumes they are having an affair. He insures they are trapped together on their way to earth. As they fall in love, his amoral father and her outraged family insist something must be done to the assumed lovers.
The latest chess futuristic romance (see FORCED MATE and INSUFFICIENT MATING MATERIAL) is once again a strange but well written and fascinating tale. The story line is character driven as Electra tries to checkmate her reluctant knight. Fans will enjoy the latest sci fi romance from the creative Rowena Cherry as she has aliens falling into a taboo love which makes make for an intriguing albeit weird but entertaining saga.

Star Crash (Love Spell Futuristic Romance) ReviewWhen her beloved Alex apparently died in a crash, Cora Daniels lost her will to live. She became reckless driving her space vessel Freedom and keeping up repairs as if she planned a suicide crash deep in her subconscious.
When the Freedom finally fails, Cora, using all her skills, manages a safe emergency landing on an unknown planet. Aliens capture her and take her to a prison encampment where she meets other humanoid species who are being forced into breeding by their guards who believe humans are dumb beasts of burden. Cora vows to escape, but is stunned when she sees Alex is one of the prisoners. He does not remember her or anything before his captivity. However, she now has a reason to live free as she plans to liberate her, Alex and the others.
Obviously reminiscent of Planet of the Apes, STAR CRASH is an interesting romantic science fiction that is at its best when readers obtain insight into the aliens and how they see humans as being beneath them. However, when the plot turns to sexual encounters, it decelerates as these trysts feel unnecessary. Still fans who appreciate outer space encounters of the first kind will enjoy Elysa Hendricks' entertaining look at comparative anthropology from ET's perspective.

No Words Alone (Love Spell Futuristic Romance) ReviewXera-Harris-d had hoped to find adventure when she signed up as a translator for a Galactic Explorers team. The experience sours quickly as she discovers the G.E. is far less than ethical. When the captain orders the team to explore a planet in Scorpio space in direct violations of I.C. treaty, a battle ensues which results on both their vessel and one of the Scorpio's crash landing on the planet which as it turns out is extremely hostile to both life forms. As the only woman on either team, she is in a uniquely dangerous position. Who to trust?
The decision is not an easy one as the first crew member to approach the Scorpio is shot down in cold blood by their ship's flame eyed commander. This is later explained away as a cultural insult. Still our hero has not made a very sympathetic beginning. However the Scorpio are familiar with the planet, its hazards and know where to take refuge. It quickly becomes obvious that in order to survive the G.E. crew will have to trust the Scorpio at least temporarily.
After braving the dangerous terrain the combined group finds shelter. Xera is quickly pushed into service by her insecure and irrational captain. She soon realizes that she has been set up as scapegoat for any disagreements or misunderstandings. She also realizes that friendly help may not be quick in arriving and that as the only female in either crew she would have to sleep with one eye open. But while the Scorpio are a patriarchal society, they revere woman. Her own crew is not so noble. When Xera's captain abuses her, the Scorpio Commander, Ryven Atarus, takes her as a war prize and installs her as the Scorpio Ambassador to her home world.
As expected the Scorpio rescue ship arrives first, leaving the enemy G.E. crew as bargaining chips. But Commander Atarus has special plans for Xera. On the Scorpio world it quickly becomes apparent that Xera's new appointment is to be a mere formality. Ryven is Scorpio nobility and heir to one of the ruling powers of his world. He plans to wed her and protocol insists that she be of equal rank in order for the ceremony to take place. With her home world far away on the other side of a wormhole, Xera accepts her fate knowing that she will never see her family again and expects to be branded a traitor among her own people.
Ryven is not without compassion and promises to delay the wedding night until Xera can contact her sister with the news. Suffice it to say that this is not a case of dubious consent, but Ryven also has enemies and Xera could easily become a pawn once more.
I love futuristic romance and am always looking for new authors to read, and have heard great things about Ms. Dawns previous e-published novels. I've also known Dorchester publishing to put out some spectacular futuristic romances in the past, so it pains me to have to say that I found myself somewhat disappointed with this one. The premise had great promise and the last paragraph which tied in to the title was great, but the tale that went before it robbed it of it's "awwwww" factor.
First the characters failed to stir my emotions. Xera was ambivalent at best. She thought constantly about how she missed her family but never made any attempt to escape. She had every excuse in the book, the distance, the danger, etc. One might accept that she was lukewarm about escape because she was so in love with her new husband but the romance didn't gel for me either.
Xera comes to believe that Ryven is schooling her in how not to show affection in public but not once does she try to break down that wall and force him to tell her how he feels. In fact the only time Xera showed strong emotions (outside of a few love scenes) was in her relationships with the two other downtrodden women in the story, Ryven's divorced sister and the Leo slave.
The reader is supposed to understand that the Scorpio culture is different, that public and verbal displays of affection are unseemly and the females know that their men's actions speak of their love for them. But the two are apart for significant time periods of time and if Xera doesn't get it, why should the reader? Even when Xera discovers that the two races are genetically compatible, she is horrified rather than pleased. I just didn't get it. I will definitely give the author another try, but if you are thinking about exploring futuristic romance for the first time, but if you are thinking about exploring futuristic romance for the first time, you might want to start out with one of her other works.

When Sparks Fly (Love Spell) ReviewThere's something about Hyna Blue that touches Gem Harrisdaughter. Her offer of a job is meant to be charity but she soon realizes there is more to Hyna than she first thought. Meanwhile, Gem's very livelihood is in jeopardy and Hyna's determination to be her bodyguard may be all that stands between life and death for her. What will happen WHEN SPARKS FLY?
WHEN SPARKS FLY is actually a prequel to NO WORDS ALONE, despite the release dates. Gem is the family matriarch and she takes her duties towards her sisters and their inn quite seriously. Her attraction to Hyna isn't surprising as she is used to mothering and Hyna initially presents as someone in need of direction. However, Hyna is clearly all Alpha male as readers will soon see. The clash between two such dominant personalities is inevitable... and quite intriguing against the futuristic backdrop of WHEN SPARKS FLY.
Autumn Dawn writes romances with a lot of heart-tugging emotions in them. As the story unfolds, the dilemma Hyna faces is by no means an easy one. Conversely, Gem's anger is also completely understandable. Both characters are so dedicated and honest that it's heartbreaking to see the troubles they must face. Hyna and Gem are two characters that deserve their happily-ever-after and Autumn Dawn more than delivers! Easily recommended!

Paradise City (Love Spell Futuristic Romance) ReviewI have just recently discovered Sherrilyn Kenyon. I read her new book "Fantasy Lover" and knew I had to read everything else she has written. I really enjoyed this sci-fi romance. I liked the fact that the characters had problems and weren't picture perfect. The supporting characters made the story whole and I would enjoy read stories about some of them.
This is the story of Alix, a slave who is a wiz mechanic and she hires on to be the engineer on Devyn's ship. She hopes to someday have enough money to get her own ship. Devyn has no idea that she is a slave and she keeps that info a secret from him. Devyn is a runner. He is a former HAWC doctor who had had enough of the horrible things he was assigned to do and now uses his ship to carry medical supplies and food to those in deperate need.
Neither of them realize that they are the targets of a evil man who will stop at nothing to see them harmed. Together they must learn to tust each other and face the evil. Along the way they find passion and love but its a struggle.
The book was an enjoyable read for an afternoon. I plan on reading more of this author's books.Paradise City (Love Spell Futuristic Romance) Overview
