Low Magick: It's All In Your Head ... You Just Have No Idea How Big Your Head Is ReviewLon Milo DuQuette's latest memoir is as entertaining, yet less technical than My Life with Spirits. There are similar stories, which make for interesting comparison, such as his exorcism of a Catholic Girls' School. While it is entertaining, he describes his methods in such a way that gives a working magician some direction in how he addressed certain problems and an indication of how others might tackle the same. It is not a manual of magick per se, but written between every line in the book is a helpful piece of advice: "It works for me, find what works for you."Low Magick: It's All In Your Head ... Enochian World of Aleister Crowley ReviewThis is an excellent little book! It takes the complexity of the Enochian system and makes it usable. I can say that this is something many other books on the subject fail to accomplish. Hyatt and Duquette are both experienced and practicing magicians, which instantly comes across in this work, with its "dare to be lazy" attitude. Through experience of my own, I can tell you what the two trademarks of all true magicians are: 1)The ability to laugh, even at the worst horrors, and 2)The ability to throw jargon out the door and discern the heart of every matter while never taking any matter too seriously. The simple reason for these abilities is that by actually doing magick and actually experiencing the magickal universe instead of merely reading about it, these abilities are automatically developed. These are abilities that Hyatt and Duquette both possess, and it sets the tone for this book. If you study its contents, you WILL understand the enochian system, and if you practice its rituals, you WILL be successful, given that you have at least some prior experience in magick. Be forewarned that this is advanced magick, and requires one to be proficient in the basic abilities. The methods taught here are powerful, utilising the potencies of Sex Magick. Enochian Magick in general should not be dabbled with without a thorough foundation. Doing so will either prove useless or expose the dabbler to very real dangers, depending on that person's innate psychic ability. Regardless of what some authors claim, these forces are more than mere phantoms of the mind. They act in a very independent and objective way upon the magician's reality. In other words, they might have other agendas than those of the naive apprentice, and will express these agendas quite violently if their "master" fails to muster the strength to command otherwise. In having said that, I leave the rest over to Hyatt and Duquette. After this the rest is between you and the angels of Enochian Magick. Enjoy!Enochian World of Aleister Crowley Overview

The Cinderella Curse ReviewI'm a finisher, so I kept reading this, thinking it would improve as it progressed. It didn't. I was left thinking perhaps this was a 'novel' texted in pieces by a teen text wiz. As literature, even light romance lit, it ain't magic. It's choppy, fairly obvious and the friend is more interesting than is the main character. Or perhaps that's because we see less of her and hear less of her thoughts. I thought, '70 pages. Should be a quick read.' It seemed a lot longer. The Cinderella Curse OverviewPlease note that this is a novella equivalent to 70 pages of a hardback novel. From the acclaimed author of Reunion comes the hilarious tale of a girl who whacks a witch, gets cursed, and becomes a pumpkin at midnight. Sound strange? She thinks so.Cindy had a fairy tale life - well, not literally - but she was pretty and popular. Then one fateful autumn day, while picking apples, she encountered a real-life witch. After accidentally clocking the witch on the head with her basket of apples, the angry witch put a spell on her. As Cindy would soon find out, she was destined to live out her nights turning into a pumpkin at midnight. Talk about a crimp in your social life! There is only one antidote for Cindy's terrible curse - if only she knew what it was. Hilarity ensues as Cindy attempts to lead a normal life as a part-time pumpkin.

Barbie & the Beast (Love Spell Paranormal Romance) ReviewThis book was just plain fun. There was nothing deep or serious about the book--just a light-hearted, silly (in a good way!) romance with a paranormal side. I read it in one day! The main characters, Barbie and Darin, were endearing and I felt myself rooting for them to get together. If you're looking for a charming, easy-to-read love story, then I recommend this one.Barbie & the Beast (Love Spell Paranormal Romance) Overview

Hocus Pocus: Titania's Book of Spells ReviewI had bought all the other Titania books before this (due to lack of stock) and I should have waited for this one. It gives all the initial insight into becoming a Witch and is a great stepping stone for the beginner. I have recommended it to friends and now I recommend it to you.
The introduction tells you an idea of what a Witch is and also incldes a 'shopping list' (Invaluable to someone wanting to enter the craft). Titania speaks to you as an individual without patronising which (pardon the pun) I found inviting and undaunting. The spells are easy to follow and understand.
The best book out at the moment.Hocus Pocus: Titania's Book of Spells Overview

Kiss and Spells ReviewThis is a great book.I really enjoyed this book. It is very entertaining and interesting book. I would highly recommend it to one and all.Kiss and Spells OverviewWhen pragmatic career girl Belinda explores an odd new shop on her lunch break, she surprises herself when she buys two "how to cast spells" books as a gag gift for her best friend, never realizing the changes they have in store for her own life.Working at her job (with which she has a love/hate relationship) she contends with a colorful cast of fellow employees, ranging from cowboy wanna-be Ty to the wildly inappropriate "I-know-where-the-bodies-are-buried" HR Manager Lorna. As she works diligently to please her eagle-eyed boss and rise in her career when she unexpectedly meets handsome and older Alan Gregson, a new client who becomes both a fascination and a mystery in her life. Work, boyfriend woes and margaritas are de riguer for her and her best friend Beth, and just when when she starts to see some light on both fronts, the twists and turns come at her fast and hard.As Belinda navigates the changes in her life, she comes to realize what true love might be and how to finally make an impression on her difficult boss who has his own strange past and future problems brewing. As she struggles with the changes happening to her, Belinda wonders if spells do indeed hold some magic. She bravely moves to take her career by the reins, make decisions for her love life and even help her friend in ways they never knew possible.

Gotcha (Love Spell) ReviewI had so wanted a 3rd Divorced and Desperate book from Christie Craig and thought ok I will settle for Gotcha! Well you are far from settling with this book! Christie Craig hits the mark AGAIN with this book. Macy Tucker is a woman with drama in her life. A younger brother in prison, a mom who cries constantly when she's not getting her belly button pierced, cheating husband which leads to a no-good ex-husband and if THAT isn't enough now she has an escaped criminal after her!
Enter Jake Baldwin, a hunky cop with some drama of his own. His fiancee has left him to marry his brother! A pastor of all things! Jake is the son of a preacher who watched his dad die from cancer and his fiancee walk out on him and into the waiting arms of his brother, someone he hasn't spoken to in years.
Definitely sounds like these two are the last two people on the planet who should get mixed up together, but mixing it up they sure do!
Macy, like all of Craig's heroine's, is a treasure. She has a cat named Elvis, works her butt off delivering pizzas so she can go to law school. She has a good relationship with her grandmother (who teaches yoga!), her mom and her baby brother. Sure Billy got mixed up in some trouble, but she's a good sister and stands by him.
Billy escapes from prison the same time Tanks does and he knows Tanks is gunning for his sister. He's trying to keep his sister and the love of his life Ellie safe from harm. Hard to do when you're on the lamb from the law.
Jake is unofficially on the case and pretty much takes charge of Macy and her care and her safety. It's endearing how he knows after that first night she is worth keeping.
Their romance is cute, sexy and completely charming.
I'm a big fan of Christie Craig and have never been let down by a single book of hers. I can't even say they keep getting better, because each one is so great in it's own right.
She has been a keeper author of mine and I anxiously await her next tale, hopefully another Divorced and Desperate book!
As long as she keeps coming up with hunky cops and damsels in distress she will keep me hooked!Gotcha (Love Spell) Overview

The Salem Witches Book Of Love Spells: Ancient Spells from Modern Witches ReviewI am a collector of love spells and have found this book filled with wonderful spells, useful information and myth shattering facts all written with a realistic sense of humor. When raising energy for love and romance, it is easy to get bogged down in the seriousness and self-imposed importance of its presence. Lilith reminds us that it is joy we are looking to call to us and we need to be serious yet light and joyful! I must say that I am particularly partial to the 'Jethro' spell. In three uses of it , I have yet to fail! I can't wait for her next book! The Salem Witches Book Of Love Spells: Ancient Spells from Modern Witches Overview

The Juliet Spell (Harlequin Teen) Review**Spoilers**
As I read this book, I kept thinking, 'Yes! This is going to make four or five stars! I am loving this idea, the characters, the flow!' Then, the book dove...hard. Let me explain.
What a great plot! Girl wants the role of Juliet (what actress doesn't?). Girl casts a spell to get role after bum audition (what girl wouldn't?). Girl gets hot Shakespeare from the past instead (what girl couldn't live with that?). It's a sweet idea!
Miranda was not my favorite female lead character. Her character seemed flat and it was difficult to get a connection. In other reviews, bloggers have suggested that it was the fact that the author is male, so writing this from a female's perspective was awkward. I kind of agree to that. He seemed to put his effort into the male characters more than Miranda's. He did a great job with Edmund! I really enjoyed his persona, his passion, and his spark! My favorite was definitely Drew, though. Such a sweet, head-over-heels in love boy. The best friend that was always there. I think these two saved the book for me.
The biggest downfall was towards the end. I was happy with the explanation of Edmund's time travel to be magic. Bringing into the factor science experiments, battery-water....blah blah blah. It lost me. Then I actually laughed at the whole phone app thing. Really? Magic was more believable. It got way too confusing and too quickly. It was quite the let down.
On the romance-side of things, I did not like the battle of relationships. Edmund was a player. Period. It's the time-period he came from. For Miranda to just take him later on seemed implausible. He's dirty in more ways that just needing a good bath. It was obvious from the beginning that Drew had been in love with her. The way it all played out did not make me happy. Miranda was seconds for Edmund and Drew for MIranda. Ick.
In all, I gave three stars just because this story has such good promise. It didn't make even a fraction more because it just faltered in the end. I would love to get your opinions on this story.

Everyday Sun Magic: Spells & Rituals for Radiant Living (Everyday Series) ReviewThere are many books written about the feminine Moon: moon phases, moon rituals and moon Goddesses. Dorothy Morrison presents us with a book on the much neglected male side of our religion, the Sun, exploring the yang side of Wicca and the Craft. Ms. Morrison focuses on the lore, the astrological correspondences, the rituals, and the spells for the other half of our balanced lives.
The book is divided into two sections. Part One is called Embracing the Sun This part of the book covers the lore of the sun, how it has influenced our lives (very basic: the hours of the day - how we come to count and measure time) to how it continues to be an influence in language, song and story. She covers some symbols associated with the sun and their meanings. She also examines how the sun relates to religion, from worship to Deity to our own Goddesses.
The book discusses the aspects of the Sun, in relation to the male energies it personifies. We follow the energy as through the growing phases of man, from infancy to old age, giving us a refreshingly easy to understand look at this energy and what it represents. This becomes important when we look at the magic involved and how it is going to relate further on in relationship to times of day, magical correspondences and energy.
It becomes apparent that this book was well thought out. The book flows from idea to idea like thoughts on a train, one leading right into another. I was impressed with the research and how well Dorothy crafted this book, enabling anyone to pick this up and understand the basics.
The book progresses to the astrological correspondences of the sun. Though the explanations are brief, there is a lot of information crammed into this section, along with an affirmation for each sign. The purpose of this section is not to discuss details of sun influences on the individual, but set the stage for working rituals and magic and how the correspondences will be associated with the celebrations and magical work being introduced next. We are given a brief but exact look at Virgo Sun or Libra Sun, for example, to understand the next steps. Again, a good, even flow to the work makes it easy to follow and a pleasure to read.
The last part of Part One is about Sun ritual and celebrations. While it starts with the basics, it again follows the astrological correspondences to form rituals that blend with the energy of each sign.
Part Two gets into what Dorothy Morrison is best known for, her spells and spell work. She is, I feel, the mistress of the modern day spell. No one writes them better or makes it easier to work them successfully. Each set of spells is laid out according to the Sun energy you will need to successfully work and attain a specific result. We reference back to the stages of the male growing up corresponding to the time of day, and the energy necessary for the intent of your work. So we have Dawn: Infant/Child; Morning: Adolescent Brother/Lover; Noon: Father and so on. She keeps it easy to understand and makes it very easy to learn. And of course, she gives you they kind of spell you will need to achieve your working. Creativity, for example, is placed in Dawn: Infant/Child, and she gives us a Crayon Spell, which is a delightful little spell. She includes the materials needed, when to do this spell, the ritual to perform and a chant/rhyme for focus to enable your spell to work.
All her spells are like this. Simple, using material you probably have at hand or can easily access. No bat's blood or eye of newt but simple items like crayons or ribbons. This is kitchen witchery at its finest, providing practical application of the KISS principal with elegance and charm to make it special.
I want to also note that there is some higher forms of magic included in this section that have been brought down to much more accessible levels for those who practice and want something more substantial. While none of Ms. Morrison's spells are fluffy, she has included a Home Blessing which includes the Magical Seals of the four archangels. Very High Magic, but easy to achieve.
There is also an Abuse spell which utilized the Sigil of Samael, another tool of High Magic. Also, please note, Ms. Morrison starts this spell off with her usual practical advice:
"Abuse is a serious matter: Please take whatever mundane steps are necessary - calling the police or filing a complaint come to mind here - before performing this spell. "
Oh, how wonderful that she includes this kind of common sense advice for a topic that many feel is so easily overcome with a simple spell or charm.
Now for the extras. Ms. Morrison is not only a great spell worker but she also has great recipes that she usually includes in her books. This one is no exception. There is an Appendix in the back called Celebratory Drink Recipes and there are some great mixed drink recipes in this book that will blow you away. While not suggesting you get plowed with these, the mixes are fabulous, great tasting and in some cases, can be made sans the alcohol and still be a great celebratory mix. I love the Frozen Sunrise Margarita.
There is a great bibliography for further reading. My copy of this book is an uncorrected proof, and did not contain an index. Hopefully there will be one with the finished book.
All in all, a great way to learn, understand and to work with the Sun and its energies and a great balance to the Moon energy we seem to have in abundance these days. This is a very wonderful book to add to your collection. boudicaEveryday Sun Magic: Spells & Rituals for Radiant Living (Everyday Series) Overview
