The Spellcasting Picture Book: Visual tools for grown-up magic (Volume 2) ReviewIf you think magic and the casting of spells is Serious Business then do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT read the rest of this review, and on pain of the death of your supercilious ego, avoid Diana Rajchel's The Spell-Casting Picture Book.
"This isn't a teaching spellbook or a beginner's book. If I wanted to spend forever hacking at the same basic crap other Wiccan writers get stuck with, I'd have done it. I decided to skip that part and go straight to the spells. There are a couple basics - grounding and centering - but for the rest, a search on USENET under FAQs on energy work will do you just fine."
In one sense, that sums up what this Spellbook is about - no nonsense, no mucking around, no moralizing, and totally direct. In another, it completely belies the absolute FUN that the reader will find herein. A spellbook, fun? Absolutely.
Moreover, this is an exploration in creativity, pushing boundaries and finding fresh perspectives. I found the sheer delight and fun on every page to be nearly as wonderful as the spells themselves. (Which are, by the way, lucid, focused and powerful - much better than most spellwork I've reviewed over the years.)
The colors are rich and fluid, the spells themselves rhymes, often accompanied by gestures (pictures of Diana's hands are included). This is crude by most people's standard's but they do not lack power for all of that. If you want complicated, look elsewhere. If you want polished, it ain't here. If, on the other hand, you want to read what a REAL witch has in her Book of Shadows (well, kind of: my pages aren't nearly so colorful, but I'm a frustrated and frustrating artist) then get this one.
Highly, highly, HIGHLY recommended. The Spellcasting Picture Book: Visual tools for grown-up magic (Volume 2) Overview

Xanth: The Quest for Magic (A Spell for Chameleon; The Source of Magic; Castle Roogna) ReviewThis book is a compilation of the first three books of the Xanth series. It is great for people who want to get started on a series, but don't have the patience to stop the story long enough to buy the next book. With the first three in hand, you can easily immerse yourself in this magical world without setting foot in a bookstore.
Xanth is a land where everyone has a magical talent. The first book tells of a quest where a young man named Bink searches for his talent before he is exiled to Mundania, where magic does not exist. Clever puns and witty dialogue make up for the slightly sexist themes. A great read.Xanth: The Quest for Magic (A Spell for Chameleon; The Source of Magic; Castle Roogna) Overview

The Magic of Xanth: An Enchanting Fantasy Trilogy- A Spell for Chameleon / The Source of Magic / Castle Roogna ReviewI was introduced to Xanth when I was sick and became one of it's greatest silent fans. The library had this buried and I just had a feeling I finnally found someone I can identify with, Dee. Her simplistic complexity was right on the mark and when she wins, not only her true love, but also finds that it's o.k. to be so different and yet the same as everyone else, you can't help but LOVE these books! Piers, please don't ever stop being a kid inside, i'd think the world as I know it was about to end. Cymbelina and The Cat With No Name ReviewJust read Cymbelina and the Cat with No Name - I bought it for my niece, but read it first. I loved it! The characters are well drawn and distinctive and the story has the timeless feel of a classic. There's everything that kids like - animals, magic, adventure and suspense, humor. It's quite clever the way problems mount up and then are solved by the lead character, with a little magical help. Good, clean fun, but never boring.Cymbelina and The Cat With No Name OverviewA magical novel for children set in England, by Richard Spanswick.Major Barker's dog, Sapper, is a problem. His endless barking is driving the whole neighborhood crazy. Next door, the Christmas's cat is determined to do something about it. But who will take a cat called Mouse seriously? The only one who can help Mouse become the local hero is Cymbelina, the bewitching but bad-tempered cat at the antique store. But Mouse soon learns that everything comes at a price - and may have unintended, and at times hilarious, consequences.Excerpt:'I really am so keen to help my new friend, Mr' what did you say your name was?' Here, Cymbelina looked at Mouse with such intensity that he started to feel dizzy again. Those green eyes seemed to swirl and sway in front of him, and he thought he was going to fall off the pouffe.‘I didn't''‘Oh no, that's right, you didn't tell me.' Cymbelina's deep and mysterious eyes held Mouse locked in their unblinking gaze. ‘Would you like to give me your name now?'‘My name?' Mouse felt himself being sucked into that spinning pool of green. He was sinking, sinking' Then, suddenly, something clicked in his head. He snapped out of the daze and everything was clear - so bright and clear he was almost dazzled. He knew the answer to the problem - the problem of his own life.‘My name!' Mouse almost shouted the words. ‘Yes, I'll give you my name!'No sooner had he said it than he wished he hadn't. The room went quiet and Mouse began to feel rather silly. He shifted uncomfortably on the pouffe. Then Cymbelina smiled quizzically and said, ‘You mean you'll give me your name in exchange for my stopping Sapper barking? That's the deal?'‘Yes,' said Mouse, sheepishly.‘And what will you do without a name?'‘I don't know - get another, I suppose.'‘Well, well, well, what an unusual offer! I'll have to think about that.' She looked into the glowing coals and thought. A shower of sparks rose and settled like fireflies on the bricks at the back of the fireplace before dying out. ‘Mmm, what can I do with a name?' Cymbelina turned back to Mouse with an amused expression and continued, ‘Can I put it in the shop window with a sign saying “One Slightly Used Name. A Bargain at £200"? Or maybe I could sell it with the grandfather clock: “Special Offer, Buy this Antique Clock (needs slight adjustment) and Get this Antique Name Free!" After all, your name is an antique isn't it? Passed down from your father and your grandfather and your great-grandfather? Oh, but forgive me, I don't know your name, do I? How can I tell what it's worth?' Cymbelina paused and looked expectantly at Mouse.‘It's Mouse,' said Mouse very quietly. For a moment the silence was deafening. And then Cymbelina almost exploded with delight.‘Oh, wonderful, wonderful! A cat called Mouse!

SWORN (MOON CHILD) ReviewSworn, is hilarious, teens will have some fun with this one.
In the tradition of true comedy, it parodies some famous horror whilst not being a horror story. You will recognize Frankenstein and Edward Scissorhands, even Lord of the Rings. Look for them in the hugely funny character Harley, there's a reason why his eyes keep changing color and it's not because he's a vampire, and the description of Rodger evokes Gollum for me. Bea's friend Harry with her own description of a make-out session with the guy she has the hots for is such fun; tongue in cheek humor abounds.
I loved the witch school and the fabulous made up words.
There are serious threads within the book, the fact that Bea's parents are in orbit and the kindness of Aunt Matilda, the premise that love can change things. All offset with this beautiful humor, Sworn is a comedy, a romance, a witch fest, a really good read and can be recommended.
SWORN (MOON CHILD) OverviewPRODUCT DESCRIPTION SWORN When Bea Trevallis' parents are killed in a car crash her Aunt Matilda adopts her - except she isn't her real aunt - and she's a witch.Aunt Matilda's spells are invariably as muddled as she is. And Bea has to put up with them. It takes a visit with her friend Harry to Count Dracula's castle to find that his son is more than ordinary. But that's just when the danger begins.ABOUT THE AUTHOR KATE HAMILTON lives and works in Edinburgh, Scotland. She visits the castles and estate houses which provide the settings for her books. Quite often she will write about a place only to discover afterwards that it actually exists. She is the author of BLOOD LINE. 'Watch out for Ms Hamilton - she is definitely a rising star in the book world.' www.kate-hamilton.co.uk

The Cinderella Curse ReviewI'm a finisher, so I kept reading this, thinking it would improve as it progressed. It didn't. I was left thinking perhaps this was a 'novel' texted in pieces by a teen text wiz. As literature, even light romance lit, it ain't magic. It's choppy, fairly obvious and the friend is more interesting than is the main character. Or perhaps that's because we see less of her and hear less of her thoughts. I thought, '70 pages. Should be a quick read.' It seemed a lot longer. The Cinderella Curse OverviewPlease note that this is a novella equivalent to 70 pages of a hardback novel. From the acclaimed author of Reunion comes the hilarious tale of a girl who whacks a witch, gets cursed, and becomes a pumpkin at midnight. Sound strange? She thinks so.Cindy had a fairy tale life - well, not literally - but she was pretty and popular. Then one fateful autumn day, while picking apples, she encountered a real-life witch. After accidentally clocking the witch on the head with her basket of apples, the angry witch put a spell on her. As Cindy would soon find out, she was destined to live out her nights turning into a pumpkin at midnight. Talk about a crimp in your social life! There is only one antidote for Cindy's terrible curse - if only she knew what it was. Hilarity ensues as Cindy attempts to lead a normal life as a part-time pumpkin.

Attract Men Like Bees to Honey: The Magic Formula for Putting Him Under Your Spell ReviewI read the other reviews and thought it sounded pretty good...WRONG... they must be fake, this book is a self published mess, it was written by someone very much like the cartoon characters Boris and Natasha from Bullwinkle.
I will quote a bit for you....From the "chapter Get men to approach you","If you want someone to approach you, be sure to wear something that is eye-catching and noticeable to you. You will be surprised how much easier it is to go up to someone and ask a question about their prop." This is one of 6 tips in the "Chapter" here is another quote from the same "chapter" "Check your voice. Does your voice sound like a dental drill or do you wash people in waves of sensual sound?" The Chapter is two pages long and so you can see how helpful these "tips" are.
Here is more from the chapter, How to Flirt with a Guy You Like, (also 2 pages long) , tip 5 "The last but definitely not the least tip suggests you master the art of flirting following the principle, 'Flirt in a way as if you can with your innocent looks and fascinating personality. Use your flirting body language as well as your womanly assets and get what you want."
Here is more from the chapter titled "How to increase your sex appeal?" the entire first paragraph, "For different tastes, sexiness is emphasized through different means. Your looks, those high firm breasts or that catwalk of yours may attract a guy and for others that essence of womanliness is the appealing factor. Yet for others that tomboy attitude may be the detergent, yet one step further may be the delicacy, that softness of yours which instinctively gives other the feeling to protect, nourish and cherish you forever." YES he said detergent, I don't know why.
I just have to give you the entire chapter titled "How to date a millionaire?" (yes it has a question mark on the title) it is also 2 pages long.
"If you have seen the show, "Who wants to be a millionaire" then you would be well aware of the fact that money is indeed quite hard to get. But as it is amusingly said that 'if you want to be rich, then start dating a rich person' and there are many people around who follow this amusing saying without proper guidance. One should always keep in mind that dating is not a child's play and especially dating a wealthy person. However, as long as I am here you don't need to worry at all. So, I bring to you some dating tips which would help you a great deal as well as guide you the right way by highlighting some important aspects about how to date a millionaire: 1. Don't talk about your financial condition and don't care about how wealthy the person opposite you actually is: The first and foremost tip lays stress on forgetting about the difference in financial condition between you and the person you are dating. Be normal and avoid getting in awe of the luxurious life of the other person. 2. Sweet little gifts: Everybody likes getting gifts and your millionaire is no different but the point to be kept in mind is that you should gift him those gifts which are as sweet as you. It is not a hard and fast rule that the gift must be an expensive one, but it should be cute and lovely. 3.Act Innocent yet dignified: Make your innocence your greatest virtue but at the same time behave in a dignified manner. Don't commit the blunder of projecting your image as a fake personality. Ada dash of humor to your character and always keep your millionaire in good spirits. 4. No Pressure: On e of the most important tips lays stress on not putting any type of pressure on the wealthy person you are dating. Don't expect too much and give some time to let the flower of your romance blossom. %. Things to avoid: The last but definitely not lease tip suggests you to avoid some things like excessive make-up, behaving like a moron, looking weird by experimenting out of the world looks, hair style or dressing sense. Don;'t be a piece of iron, be a magnet. The need is to just be yourself, pass on the positive vibes, bring out your charismatic personality and keeping the above mentioned tips always in your mind."
The above is the entire chapter on dating a millionaire!
Well there you have a sample of the mess that is supposed to be a book, the author must have at least a high school GED to be able to get it self published!Attract Men Like Bees to Honey: The Magic Formula for Putting Him Under Your Spell Overview

Bait & Switch (Love Spell Contemporary Romance) ReviewWhen Twin Cary arrives on his doorstep, Mitch quickly realizes his brother is in trouble again. In debt to his bookie, Cary has devised a plan to extricate himself from trouble at Mitch's expense. These mirror image twins will simply set the bait, and then switch places. Mitch will make the arrest and Cary will be off the hook with minimum fuss. Even Peyton, Cary's lady friend, cannot tell them apart.
Cary does not appreciate Mitch's risk to his career or his kneecaps, since criminals notoriously break bones in reprisal for nonpayment of debts. Worse, Mitch's ethics do not allow romantic attachments to any woman currently or previously involved with his brother. In addition, Peyton's capricious nature ensures rather unpredictable results with one sure conclusion: she inspires wicked desires and wild fantasies. Too bad Mitch cannot be quite sure if she is falling for him, or his mirror image.
The author of THE MISCONCEPTION is back with a lively twin switch that brings sparkling hilarity in BAIT & SWITCH. The zany plot keeps the pace quick even as the characters come vividly to life. While the unifying plot is quite serious, the tone remains light and snappy. Indeed, Mitch must be the only hero in history to be sent on errand to collect on debt for a bookie, and lend the subject money rather than breaking bones! The dominate theme of identity and being true to one's self keeps the readers amused right down to the secondary plot with its playful twists. With strong characters, funny dialogue, and a strong element of sensual tease, BAIT & SWITCH earns the WordWeaving Award for Excellence.Bait & Switch (Love Spell Contemporary Romance) Overview

How to Spell Chanukah and Other Holiday Dilemmas. ReviewA group of stories (mostly, I think, nonfictional) by a group of (mostly, I think, youngish and secular) Jewish writers about some of their Chanukah experiences. One or two of the stories are moving, one or two are humorous; most were just unmemorable. On the positive side, this book is an easy and (mostly) painless read- the sort of book that you could comfortably read if you were trapped on an airplane for two or three hours, but not exactly a life-changing experience. How to Spell Chanukah and Other Holiday Dilemmas. Divorced, Desperate and Dating (Love Spell Mystery Romance) ReviewI loved this book. It's just what's been missing from the romance shelves for FAR too long: humor, action and adventure with an emphasis on the romance, and likable characters. No tortured heroes, no annoyingly "super" heroines, i.e., no super powers, no super skills, no super smart mouth, no super top secret jobs. Just smart, resourceful people you'd actually like to know. Also no paranormal creepiness. Hooray! Keep it up Christie, you're my new favorite author.Divorced, Desperate and Dating (Love Spell Mystery Romance) Overview

Three Complete Xanth Novels: A Spell for Chameleon; The Source of Magic; Castle Roogna Review
Containing the trilogy that started the well-known series, this book introduces the reader to the magical world ofXanth.
Xanth is a peninsula (with a remarkable resemblance to Florida) where magic exists and anything is possible. It is surrounded by the "Curtain," a magical barrier that instantly kills anything touching it. Outside the Curtain, Xanth is surrounded by the magic-less land of "Mundania." With this setting with unlimited possibilities, Piers Anthony has created a masterpiece.Three Complete Xanth Novels: A Spell for Chameleon; The Source of Magic; Castle Roogna Overview

N-O Spells No (Hello Reader Level 2) ReviewI think it's kind of interesting because this girl named Kate always says, "No!" to everything her mom says. Gotcha (Love Spell) ReviewI had so wanted a 3rd Divorced and Desperate book from Christie Craig and thought ok I will settle for Gotcha! Well you are far from settling with this book! Christie Craig hits the mark AGAIN with this book. Macy Tucker is a woman with drama in her life. A younger brother in prison, a mom who cries constantly when she's not getting her belly button pierced, cheating husband which leads to a no-good ex-husband and if THAT isn't enough now she has an escaped criminal after her!
Enter Jake Baldwin, a hunky cop with some drama of his own. His fiancee has left him to marry his brother! A pastor of all things! Jake is the son of a preacher who watched his dad die from cancer and his fiancee walk out on him and into the waiting arms of his brother, someone he hasn't spoken to in years.
Definitely sounds like these two are the last two people on the planet who should get mixed up together, but mixing it up they sure do!
Macy, like all of Craig's heroine's, is a treasure. She has a cat named Elvis, works her butt off delivering pizzas so she can go to law school. She has a good relationship with her grandmother (who teaches yoga!), her mom and her baby brother. Sure Billy got mixed up in some trouble, but she's a good sister and stands by him.
Billy escapes from prison the same time Tanks does and he knows Tanks is gunning for his sister. He's trying to keep his sister and the love of his life Ellie safe from harm. Hard to do when you're on the lamb from the law.
Jake is unofficially on the case and pretty much takes charge of Macy and her care and her safety. It's endearing how he knows after that first night she is worth keeping.
Their romance is cute, sexy and completely charming.
I'm a big fan of Christie Craig and have never been let down by a single book of hers. I can't even say they keep getting better, because each one is so great in it's own right.
She has been a keeper author of mine and I anxiously await her next tale, hopefully another Divorced and Desperate book!
As long as she keeps coming up with hunky cops and damsels in distress she will keep me hooked!Gotcha (Love Spell) Overview
