Dragon Over Washington (The Third War Of The Bir Nibaru Gods) ReviewThis book from an unknown author really gave me a surprise. It turned out to be one of the best and most interesting books I've read lately, though I go through one or two kindle titles every week.
I'll start with the hero, an NSA employee called Thorpe. Thorpe is a likable character, a man who is really a boy in his heart, who works for the NSA mainly to get a chance to play with all the neat gadgets and electronic toys that only the government possess. Then, interesting things start happening and Thorpe, mainly out of boredom with his normal tasks, start to investigate. Thorpe, right in front of our eyes, finds out disturbing things, things that herald an unimaginable danger coming to out earth. However, among all the trouble brewing and Thorpe having to fight for his life against a mystery foe, Thorpe manages to grow up a bit, starting to understand something about responsibility and dependability. But even so, he still finds time to fall in love with a fellow agent. Following Thorpe's character development was a real treat.
The book involves supernatural events occurring right in our own, mundane world. The author managed to describe the events in such a way the reader feels that real events are being described, that if you'd open your TV, six o'clock news would declare that in London, wield and catastrophic events started happening. This blending of the real and the unreal was written so well as to make the seams invisible, immersing the reader into a fantastic adventure that nevertheless feels absolutely real.
The book's uncompromising realism is especially pronounced when battles against fantastic monsters (I can say dragons and demons but I don't want to give away the surprises from the book) are being described. The reader feels he is actually in the battle scene, seeing every fang and talon, hearing every growl and hiss. It's an incredible experience.
Last but not least, the book leaves tantalizing hints involving our own ancient history. There is a deep connection, a mystery to be unraveled that makes you want to devour this book in one go, even forgetting to sleep (but not eat, of course. I usually eat and read at the same time).
I've never read a book quite like this before. I can highly recommend it to anyone searching for something really interesting and original to read. If you don't believe me - just download the prologue!!!

Fate of Thorik (Altered Creatures) ReviewI enjoyed this book, and look forward to further installments of this series. Those of us who enjoy fantasy literature always are looking for new worlds and characters to explore, but we're often disappointed. Too often it's more of the same, and Piers Anthony and J.R.R. Tolkien did it better. Wedgeworth may not be in their league yet, but he has created characters with depth and believability that we can care about, and the action keeps moving. The descriptions of Thorik's world are vivid in detail, yet they do not overwhelm the narrative. Plot turns and twists are reasonable, but not ridiculous. The story stands on its own, yet leaves the reader with an interesting cliffhanger to bring him or her back. A fine first offering.Fate of Thorik (Altered Creatures) OverviewFate of Thorik begins with a countdown to pending doom. Our heroes and heroines know the date, but not the location, of an imminent attack. Compounding the issue, they don't trust each other with the critical information they do possess.Struggling to find the truth, Thorik confronts an entirely new world to him with overwhelming magic, altered beasts, battle-risen undead, and even deceivers amongst his closest allies. Weighing upon Thorik's shoulders are his uncle's desire to control him, his mentor's obsession to vanquish the new rising evil, and Thorik's own internal demons of self-doubt. The land's destiny is in Thorik's hands, while his confidence and conviction to his beliefs will define his own fate.Fate of Thorik is the first of 6 books in the Altered Creatures saga about Thorik Dain's journey across unknown territory to save family, friends and the land he loves.

The Blood of a Dragon (Ethshar) ReviewIf you have never read an Ethshar book, don't start with this one!
The hero needed a good spanking as he demonstrated what a spoiled child he was. I was hoping that he would grow and mature, and I suppose he did a tiny bit. Unfortunately it was all in a negative direction. I could see the hero of this book becoming the antagonist in another. Despite his hardships he never really learned anything. I'm a fan of the Ethshar series, but this one left me wanting. I believe that there should have been at least another chapter detailing the eventual consequences of his actions, perhaps with some sort of reprecussions. Despite that I give it a solid three due to the cameos by Valder the Innkeeper and the spriggans. The Blood of a Dragon (Ethshar) OverviewDumery of Shiphaven was a lad with a love of wizardry--and no magic at all. He dreamed of apprenticing himself to a great wizard, but because he had not even a touch of the talent, it was a dream he could never fulfill. He would never apprentice himself to a great wizard, nor even a meager one; no matter how he loved magic and the magical arts, he would never work with wizards or wizardry. That's what Dumery was beginning to think, anyway--until he spied a great wizard humbling himself before a man selling dragon's blood, the precious stuff that made difficult spells work. If Dumery couldn't be a wizard, he could still become a dragon-hunter--and have all those condescending wizards crawling to him. And so Dumery set off on a quest--a quest in search of dragons and dragon-hunters, and ultimately the secret that lay beneath all the wizardry in Ethshar. Before he reached its end, he would uncover the terrible mystery of the dragon-hunters--and scheme a scheme that would change the face of Ethsharitic magic forever.

The Spell Sword (The Gregg Press Science Fiction Series) Review"The Spell Sword" is another Darkover novel by Marion Zimmer Bradley. This one is set sometime after the Terran Empire rediscovered Darkover. Now there are both the Darkovan natives, as well as men from Terra living on Darkover. This novel begins in a way that we have seen several times before: with a crash of a Terran vehicle on Darkover. This time it is from a team based at the Terran outpost at Thendara. Andrew Carr is a member of the Mapping and Explorations team that is slowly gathering information about Darkover. In a winter storm, the plane crashed and it was only through what Andrew thought was a hallucination that he was able to survive for very long in the storm. Andrew had visions of a woman named Callista guiding him away from the plane and to safety, but he had difficulty believing that these visions might be true. Eventually, Carr does come to accept that the vision is more than a hallucination, but someone communicating with him.
Damon Ridenow has been called to help find Callista, who has gone missing without a trace. Before Damon arrives at Callista's home he has to travel through someplace called "the darkened land" where the land is in shadows, uninhabitable and attacks can come from invisible assailants. Not a place you would want to spend much time. After passing through "the darkened land", Damon learns more about Callista's abduction and also meets Andrew Carr who was led there somehow by the vision of Callista. When Andrew and Damon discuss what has happened, they see the connection and that the only way to save Callista is by working together. Damon is surprised to discover that Andrew, a Terran, also has the potential to be a telepath, which Damon believed was a skill native to Darkover.
Throughout the Darkover series we hear that there are non-human races on the planet: the chieri and the cat-people. While we see the chieri once or twice, we have never seen the cat-people before and this was an area that I was interested in. For the most part, they are not developed as a race or as characters, except that we now know that some can be telepaths like humans (and chieri). We also know that they are mainly enemies of humans (though they have worked with the less reputable humans from the Dry Towns), though Damon does allow that their motives and culture are so far removed from human that it would be difficult to truly comprehend it.
This is a short novel, coming in less than 200 pages, but I found it to be fairly entertaining and I suspect that it sets the stage for the much longer "The Forbidden Tower" which features many of the same characters. "The Spell Sword" serves as introduction to Andrew Carr, Damon Ridenow, and Callista. It is fairly good for a fantasy novel, though it does not feature the depth of some. This is a straight forward story with some action. The Spell Sword (The Gregg Press Science Fiction Series) Overview

Wings of a Dove (Love Spell) ReviewPrepare to laugh, cry, prepare to be moved as never before, prepare to be totally and utterly enchanted with this amazing, beautiful, moving story..
When 10yr-old Allie Pearce's mom dies, she's whisked off to a children's home, and given the chance to travel with a group of other children across America in order to find new homes. In the train ride, she's terrified, that is until she spots a locket that has the picture of Virgin Mary engraved on, and is on a chain around 15 yr old Delaney Marsh's neck. She was scared..Delany was rumoured to have just gotten out of jail, and she had seen the hard look on his face, in those bright eyes that seem to see right through her, when he was fighting with that boy the other day. But she had to try...
"Allie took a deep breath. She carefully reached towards the locket..Suddenly Delany woke up. He reached and grabbed her wrist "What do you think you are doing?" ..."I wasnt trying to steal it..i just wanted to borrow it for a while..I wish I could buy it. If I had it, God would hear my prayers" Delaney's mocking laughter made Allie forget her fear and lifting her chin with pride. "My mom used to say that God would always hear her prayers when she was holding a locket like this in her hands.."
Delaney hesitated and then led her hand towards the locket..Allie reached towards the locket..she closed her eyes and prayed. She was tired but felt oddly at peace. For the first time after many months she felt close to God and her mom.
Delany turned and looked at the face of the litle girl that was sleeping beside him. She was a pale, weak little creature. He looked at her hand that was still loosely holding his locket. He tried to choke the forgotten sorrow that suddenly woke up inside him..."
This was the start of a wonderful friendship. Although tough, strong, rough Delaney didnt want to, the little girl that crawled up against him and gave him her trust, had crawled in his soul forever. Without wanting to, he had made a silent promise to always protect her. He didn't know but Allie had made the same promise too..
After they are both adopted by the same family, their friendship grows through the years. Delaney does not get along with the rest of the family but he stays for Allie's sake. He doesn't know what the future holds, and neither does Allie. But they both know they need each other..
This was my first ever romance book and I was captivated. I've read it more than 10 times already, and everytime I read it I'm swamped with the same emotions, the same intensity of the novel.
This is beautiful, captivating, enhancing story of two orphans that grow up together, and come across friendship, love, hardship, pain, bitterness, sorrow and finally...well u just have to read the book don't u?
The books takes us through almost a decade and a half. It's written so good, that you feel Allie's and Delany's need for each other, you hurt with them, you want to see them happy. It's more real than a lot of other romance books that I've read, and believe me I've read a LOT! You will think about it long after you finish reading it...
Allie and Delany were meant for each other..and they were united by a special locket. A locket that send their prayers for each other, for love, happiness up above on the Wings of a Dove..Wings of a Dove (Love Spell) Overview

Three Complete Xanth Novels: A Spell for Chameleon; The Source of Magic; Castle Roogna Review
Containing the trilogy that started the well-known series, this book introduces the reader to the magical world ofXanth.
Xanth is a peninsula (with a remarkable resemblance to Florida) where magic exists and anything is possible. It is surrounded by the "Curtain," a magical barrier that instantly kills anything touching it. Outside the Curtain, Xanth is surrounded by the magic-less land of "Mundania." With this setting with unlimited possibilities, Piers Anthony has created a masterpiece.Three Complete Xanth Novels: A Spell for Chameleon; The Source of Magic; Castle Roogna Overview
